At the heart of LCLT is our commitment to the land. We have a responsibility towards long-term stewardship through 99-year ground leases. One of our roles is to ensure that the land, farms, homes, along with the people and environment, are stewarded for generations to come. Your ongoing support and planned giving helps ensure we can carry on our work.

Legacy giving comes in many forms. A few examples are provided below. Please consult with an attorney and financial advisor to determine which of these is best for you.

Land Gifts

Making a gift of land through your will or trust is a generous way to create a permanent legacy on Lopez Island. By giving farm land, land for housing, or your home, you’ll create opportunities in our community for future generations.

Lopez Community Land Trust is a land-based organization. We acquire and hold land in trust to provide permanently affordable access to land for quality housing, sustainable agriculture and forestry, cottage industries and cooperatives by forever removing the land from the speculative market.

Gift with Retained Life Estate

Donate your land/home to LCLT and retain the right to continue living there. Property will be transferred without going through probate upon your death. This gift is eligible for tax deductions calculated at the time the gift is given, based on a number of factors. As a homeowner, you enjoy full use of the home, as well as full responsibility for its care, upkeep and payment of property taxes.

Keep your home, Sell LCLT the Land

This program assists existing homeowners facing potential loss of housing to remain in their home through Community Land Trust partnership. The concept is a community centered alternative to a reverse mortgage. By selling the land only to Lopez Community Land Trust and retaining ownership of the house, a homeowner can gain funds for repairs, and upkeep during their lifetime.

Any of the above add to the the permanently affordable home opportunities on Lopez for generations to come.
